The community came together for a relaxed but meaningful yarn about bowel health, with Gavin Wanganeen leading the conversation in a way that felt real, honest and easy to connect with.
Around 100 people attended the event, including Elders, families and children. There was plenty happening throughout the day—from a smoothie bike and BBQ to fresh vegetables, dips, and a steady flow of coffee and milkshakes. Most importantly, people stayed for the yarn.
The conversation covered bowel cancer risk factors, the importance of screening and early detection, and simple ways to stay healthy. It created a space where people felt comfortable asking questions, sharing stories, and taking away practical information for themselves and their families.
Clinic staff were on hand throughout the day, making it easy for people to get their flu jab, access nasal spray vaccines for children, and register for a free bowel screening kit.
A highlight of the day was Aunty Yvonne Abdulla winning a Port Power guernsey signed by Gavin Wanganeen.
A huge thank you to the whole Nunyara team for bringing the event together. Days like this make it easier for our community to take the next step in looking after their health.
